Malkhaz Erqvanidze, a renowned Georgian ethnomusicologist and Doctor of Social Sciences, has been involved in practical and scientific activities in the field of traditional music both in Georgia and abroad for 35 years.
From the late 1980s until 2008, Malkhaz Erqvanidze carried out numerous field studies in the villages of Achara, Guria, Samegrelo, Imereti, Kartli, Kakheti, Upper and Lower Svaneti. The materials he collected, recorded on audio and video tapes, contain many unique examples.
In 2023, the Anzor Erkomaishvili State Folklore Center digitized Malkhaz Erqvanidze's expeditionary recordings.
